The World Year of Physics (WYP 2005) is the United Nations endorsed, worldwide celebration of physics and its importance in our everyday lives. Events throughout the year will highlight the achievements of physics and its great weight in the curred millennium as well as commemorate the pioneering three "Annus Mirabilis" scientific papers of Albert Einstein on the theory of photoelectric effect, the theory of Brownian movement, and the theory of special relativity in 1905. In addition to larger scale national projects, local WYP events will be organized by individuals, science museums, physics departments, labs, community groups, teachers, etc. (more can be found on the official WYP 2005 website)
WYP 2005 will leave its mark in philately - it is the intention of postal agencies in several countries to issue appropriate philatelic items.
The aim of this page is to present philatelic material (stamps, FDC, postmarks, pastcards) concerning the World Year of Physics 2005 issued all over the world.
In order to improve this page, stamp collectors interested in the topic are kindly welcome to send their suggestions, comments and scans of new items.
